Arab Youth 4 Cop – A Hope for Regional Youth

Background
COP27 marks the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change which will focus on “Delivering for people and the planet”. António Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General, ahead of the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP27) has called for "commitments to deliver on emissions reduction by 45 per cent by 2030” and for working together to “steer humanity to the path of living in harmony with the planet.” In support of that call, the Egyptian Presidency of COP27 has identified four priority areas: Mitigation, Adaptation, Finance, Collaboration to deliver. </ul>
Arab Youth 4 Cop role in youth inclusion and leveraging the voices of young people in the most vulnerable and affected countries in the MENA region
The accelerated climate events prior to hosting the COP27 such as the floods in Pakistan , the drought in North Africa, the heatwaves and the wildfires ,the sea ice extent in the Arctic and Antarctic… All have raised global concerns about compensating the countries most affected and whose infrastructure is vulnerable to the crisis despite their minor contribution. Eventually , the event was closed with a breakthrough agreement to provide loss and damage funding for vulnerable countries hit hard by floods, droughts and other climate disasters. This was widely lauded as an historic decision.
Personal testimony
Coming from a family of farmers, I have witnessed how our land has suffered from the drought season and the critical rates of rainfall deficit, mainly olive trees. In my region and across the Mediterranean region, this recent phenomenon is increasingly alarming. As a climate activist and a founder of a youth-led organization EcoWave from Tunisia , I have dreamt of making the voices of my community heard and help participate in global decision making processes .ArabYouth4COP provided me with the opportunity to attend COP27 in Egypt and join roundtables and panel discussions with high level people to talk about the stuggles and the needed action in my country as well as join many events and make valuable contacts to help expand my local work.
